Audience Research

The Questions Begin...
For this we drew up a survey of specific questions to ask our class mates and people outside of the college to get their general interest within film. After asking 20 different people I took the information most important to our group and the ones that we can string them up into a chart to see the results much more clearly.

The Results

  • From my results that I gathered from my audience feed back, a majority said that their favourite genre in Thriller. Our Sub - Style we have chosen is that of Film Noir which we can include components of the Thriller Genre
  • A huge percentage of people asked if they would go and see a film based on stars or directors...a majority said they would go and see a film depending on who was actually in it over who had directed the movie overal. So this gave me the conclusion that star image is very important when making and advertising your movie to its audience.
  • Half of the people asked said they'd prefer to go and watch a blockbuster over a smaller more independent film. Unfortunately we do not have the funding to make some action packed crime film, so using the resources we have we should make something appeal to all types of people and not just one small group.
  • The third graph which is very important towards our opening sequence is that of the age rating. One third of the people asked said the film ratings they mostly watch is around a '15'. So taking this into account we shall make it with mild use of language and moderate violence, nothing highly sexualised and nothing which id going to offend. Given this rating we are still allowed to expand on ideas without it being too childish and way too mature.

  • 15 - 15 years old or over to watch or buy this film
  • 18 - 18 years or other to watch or buy this film
  • R18 - Only licensed stores of shops will have them I.E Sexshops
Our Classification
Our group has decided due to our content that the age rating of our film will be either a 12 or a 15. This is because our film is is going to be in the style of Noir and trying to keep it clean. It will feature a few uses of strong language but nothing to cause offense and some scenes of violence and implied sex scenes. We wanted to keep the rating low so it could reach a wider audiences, of younger generation to an older generation...who wouldn't appreciate over use of violence, sex and strong language.
